A glimpse into the future :Status of Women in 2030

With all the ridiculous statements coming up from the khaps and people with rotten mindset are surfacing up in  the media.Our future looks doomed.Still the chances are some hope is left. Lets be optimistic. In this Post I have tried to analyse and tried to depict how everything stands to be in the near future.

In earlier days one would say that there were lot more atrocities practised against women when compared to the present scenario. Be it the practice of “female infanticide” where if the new born is a girl, then she is killed in the silence of night or be   the practice of “sati” where the widow is burned alive with the funeral pyre of her husband or be it the “flesh trade” where young girls are sent to brothels to satisfy their customers. But it is surprising to know that some of these evils are still practised in this modern era where the ideologies like feminism have nourished in the mind of young. This modern era where people are getting more sensitized towards women. Where people say that women are treated as equal as men. So the question arises that “if all these changes are brought in our society then why don’t we see a different result? Why do we still hear that women are treated with no respect?” They are being misbehaved, abused, assaulted and traumatized. The funny part is that we always find a way to put all the blame on the lady. It is always the women who are bashed for giving birth to a girl child as if she was the deciding factor for determining the sex of the child, whereas it is scientifically proven that it is the father’s seed which plays the major role for determining the sex of the child. Still people don’t care. Inhuman it is.  And when we ask people why they don’t want a girl child they simply reply “that she won’t be able to carry the name of her family, because ultimately one fine day she is going to get married and thus will bear the name of her husband.” So who is to be blamed here? The patriarchal system or the backward mind set of the people. Nothing good will occur by this blame game. We talk about how much changes we have brought in our society and how much social reforms have been introduced by the social activists and the legislative body. But what is the good of any such things if we fail to change the end result because in the end the result is all which matters.

But we still have some hope left for our future. If we look into our past and, now, when we see our present, it’s true that women still aren't treated with due respect but now we have successfully identified the problem. We know that women aren't treated well. And there is an increase in discrimination against women. We can take suitable actions ”Identifying the problem” is the most important thing that we have so far achieved, because if we don’t know what the problem is or where the problem lies, we can’t solve the problem, because to solve any problem we need to first understand what exactly is the problem. And since now when we know the problem. We can take suitable measures. In fact we have taken some bold measures to ensure that the stigma of being a woman is removed permanently from the society, because without the existence of women the human race would surely get extinct and if we say that to be a woman is a stigma, then we should be ashamed .Reservations for women has been introduced in various sectors so to push up the social level of women. And it has been very effective.  As we can see how a women who was earlier thought of just being a house wife is handling big multimillion worth companies. A woman who earlier used to cover her face with long veils so people outside don’t see her face is now marching with the men in uniforms holding her head high. A woman who was earlier thought to be shy is bold enough that she is confident enough to walk the ramps. These examples surely proves that the stature of women have increased significantly in our society. But the thing that should concern us the most is that still in this modern era we are experiencing such insensitive attitude towards women. These all thoughts have forced us to think about future.

|How in the near future things are going to be different from what they are now? 20 years from now what will be the changes that one could hope to see.   

Security and liberty mash up.

Is anything ever justified?

I was there sitting on my couch having the T.V remote in one hand and my mobile in the other. Flicking through different news channels looking for something breaking *I like to keep myself updated*.So I tuned in to Times Now. Mostly preferred news channel by the youth, I think the main reason behind this is that it’s very trendy with all its #hastags and also it is highly active on social websites. SO I started paying attention to the T.V keeping my phone away. It was a panel discussion. Most of them are mostly panel discussions .The news was about some guidelines being proposed in Bengaluru by somebody either government or University level on keeping track on the college students and their whereabouts. I didn't get the name of the body which got this idea of implementing such guidelines as I missed the starting part of the discussion.
So anyway the entire idea of furnishing and implementing such guidelines sounded completely ridiculous to me, not because I am also a college student but also because it is against our fundamental Rights and also because as an Adult it frustrates me to know that we can’t be entrusted with the responsibility of taking care of ourselves. 
Some may rubbishes my frustration by saying that in these times it is better to adopt the precautionary measures than waiting for something bad to happen. But, still does it give people to put certain restrictions for sake of our security. I completely agree with the majority's point of view that keeping in mind the scenario of the present state and the increase in number of crimes committed against women one should be cautious. But does that mean our liberties should be compromised?
We are not talking about school kids where we have our teachers to keep the parents well informed about their deeds. We are talking about college students. Young adults. We don't go to college just to study. We have various "extra curricular activities" for which we count for. And amidst all this it’s completely outrageous when you think what's next? Are they going to digitally tag us or what? Our basic human rights are being violated. And all people say that they are doing this to protect us from the big bad things in this big bad world. Seriously?
To me it appears that they are trying to find a lame ass reason to snoop on us or tag us. And the most ridiculous thing that many of the panellists were stressing on the point that it should be both boys and girls who should be brought under these guidelines and not only girls. I feel that it's understood that if ever anything like this is implemented its going for the boys too. Such things are not to be said.
The panel was divided into three different groups. One who similarly thinks like me and said that the complete idea is ridiculous and is against our right to freedom. The second group comprises of those who had a more orthodox approach to this idea. Said that SMS alert to the parents about their child’s where about won’t harm anyone. And the third group comprises of the "moderates" as I like to call them.
They are the one who pick some pros from one side and some pros from the other side. Make a mesh mash and present it in the most diplomatic way possible. For me their views were the most fascinating to have a critical view on it. One gentleman tried to put the whole thing as "pretty thing with sugar on top" point of view. He said that "It's not about taking away the liberties, it’s about providing security."To me this statement was screwed up. How is one supposed to be liberal if the person has to live with certain restrictions? To be liberal is to be free. Free with no restrictions of any kind or what so. People may say that security comes with a price. And If giving away certain liberties is the price for that security, I would rather choose to thrive and give away my security than giving away those liberties.

Because for me, there can’t be a mash up of both the things. If ever there may exist a symbiotic relation of these two unless or until we don't have a proper bifurcation for them it won’t work for us. And they will seize to exist in a highly volatile and unstable relation. This may never be justified to anyone.

Like most of the panellist who tried to justify their stand. Some one or the else had some questions up their sleeves to put a question mark on their whole justification. This made me wonder. Is anything ever justified? #FoodForThought.

So keeping this thought in my mind I asked my mother frankly about what were her points regarding this issue.
And to my surprise she said that certain regulations won’t harm anyone. I always thought of her to be very liberal women.
 So I asked her whether she approves of the idea that college kids being snooped on. To this she replied "I don't Object on your kids roaming around or going somewhere else on pretext of going to your college. Unless you have the accountability and the responsibility and also are mature enough of taking care of you and your peers.

 And also there should be no reason for us to not to  know about your whereabouts because I think it gives certain sense of satisfaction to us as parents to know that are kids are safe, because it is natural to become paranoid for us when we read of all the crimes happening in the city. Certain space should definitely be given to you guys, but we should also be careful about the amount of space given to you. Excess of everything is not good too."

Honestly her words gave me more sense of closure than anything that any of the panelists said on that discussion. She justified her stand completely and for a change I didn't have anything to counter question her and I felt good about it. After all that what matters.
